The purpose of this article is to apply the Foucauldian toolbox, more specifically, biopower devices to a specific case such as the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile. To bring this to fruition, a succinct historical overview of the political-health technologies in Chile is undertaken: the legal-sovereign device or “conquest device” (1540-1598), the disciplinary or colonial (1598-1810) and, finally, the liberal-republican (1833-1891). Afterwards, the work focuses on presenting some of the peculiar aspects of the biopolitical technology deployed during the COVID-19 pandemic within the context of a neoliberal governmentality that delegates to citizens the task of being entrepreneurs or managers of themselves.
