Abstract

This paper analyzes the scope of the concept of “technological rent”, developed by Bolívar Echeverría, proposing its relevance to articulate a critical perspective on digital capitalism. To that end, first, we review the philosophy of technology that Echeverría develops together with his critique of capitalist modernity. Then, we analyze the main dimensions of the notion of "technological rent", highlighting its different links with the work of the Latin American philosopher. Then, we discuss Echeverría's perspective with the different diagnoses of digital capitalism understood as technofeudalism. Finally, we conclude that the critique of political economy deployed by Echeverría is fundamental for the analysis and understanding of the new dynamics of capitalism sustained by the monopolization of digital technologies.
